For the Office of Migration Agents Regulation Authority ASR conducted a census of all registered migration agents (RMAs) about proposed changes to English language requirements for re-registering agents. Using MARA records, all RMAs were invited to provide feedback. The proportion of agents who would be negatively affected by the proposed changes was identified, along with their demographic and business profiles. The study helped MARA identify ways in which they could mitigate negative impacts on particular RMA client groups. It provided a fuller understanding of how migration agents in general worked (sources of income, hours per week, number of clients, types of visas advised about and countries serviced) as well as their educational backgrounds.
